Sam Nakamura is a New Zealand–based session guitarist and composer whose playing sits at the intersection of jazz, R&B, soul, and modern guitar music. He began learning piano at a young age before discovering guitar in his teens, quickly developing a style rooted in harmony, feel, and musical storytelling. Deeply influenced by jazz guitar, gospel phrasing, and the emotive soundtracks of Japanese cinema, Sam’s approach prioritizes musical intention over flash.

A graduate with honours in jazz performance, Sam has built a diverse career performing and recording with a wide range of artists, from intimate jazz clubs to stadium tours and major festivals. His live work includes performances with bands such as Sky Canvas, improvisational residencies in Wellington, and opening stadium shows for Six60. He has also appeared as a bassist in the 2021 television series Mr. Corman, expanding his experience into film and television.
